Shaping the way we interact with the world.
From cave painting to digital video, artists have embraced emerging technologies and incorporated these technologies into the art-making practice. In fact, at some point in time, every concentration in media was “New Media,” with digital technologies representing the most current incarnation of this continuing trend.
New Media is the application of emerging technology to a studio practice. Your studies will encompass a wide range of processes, from large format digital imaging to video installation and animation, and will continue to expand as new art forms emerge and new resources become available.
Curriculum
The curriculum is designed to encourage experimentation and creative investigation using the computer while grounding students in the basic tenets of fine art. Students are encouraged to take the hardware and software designed for use by industry and mass media professionals and re-imagine them as tools for personal expression.
The beginning classes introduce students to Photoshop, Flash and Dreamweaver, while advanced classes delve deeper into work with animation, 3D animation, experimental video, sound, and exploration of the Internet as an art tool and environment.
